Resources for
Nurses or Tools of the Trade |
No web site for nurses
would be complete without some information about the history of
nursing. I was amazed at the wealth of information to be found on
the web related to nursing history. Below are a few of my more
interesting findings. |
The University of
Pennsylvania has a great
history site. |
The Florence Nightingale
Museum is a must
|
Clara Barton
- another great figure in
nursing. |
A pictorial history of
Army nursing. |
A Boston University
collection. |
History at virtualnursing.com. |
Nursing history in Virginia
(Suzi's home
state). |
Nurses in the Civil War. |
Need Continuing Education
Units? Check out these online classes: Western Schools has a great selection and their site is easy to navigate. The prices are reasonable, too. Suzi speaks from experience here. NetCE says that they have 300 contact hours online with tests. If you are in California, check NurseWeek. Another site that looks good is RNCeus.com. Find extensive listings at NurseWebSearch. If you are in the mood for a cruise, check Continuing Education for Nurses. NEW - CEU's for CCM's |
Need medication
info? |
References Remember where the piriformis is or the calcaneus? Look in Gray's Anatomy. How about disease information? Try the Merck Manual. And what WAS that ICD-9 code? Try here. Need to look up a medical term? Here is a great list of free online medical dictionaries. Taber's is available online, but not free. |
Web sites just for
nurses
www.allnurses.com has a great bulletin board, nurse chat and
more. www.NurseWeek.com
has news articles and job
listings for California, as well as continuing education
listings. www.nursinghands.com has lots of good information and offers a weekly email subscription full of interesting stuff. www.nursezone.com is one I just found. For California nurses, the Board of Registered Nursing is here. Next is the California Nurses Association. And the American Nurses Association is here. See also the International Council of Nurses. Let's not leave out the National League of Nursing or nurses in the UK. |
Hmmm - Nurses Day.
What day was that? Good question. It seems there are numerous
Nurses Days. International Nurses Day
is May 12, which is also
Florence Nightingale's birthday. Student Nurses Day is May 8. Nurses week begins on May
6. Then there is Orthopedic Nurses Day
on October 30 and IV Nurses Day is on January 25. October 18 is Hispanic Nurses Day, and National Black Nurses Day is February 12. My
apologies if I left our your specialty's day. Best of all
